We took a nap from about 9pm-2:30am on Monday night/Tuesday morning - left home at 3am and headed to the Indy airport. We flew out at 6am, connected through Vegas, and then onto Honolulu. We decided to spend the first week of this trip in Kona, Big Island, for vacation. That meant that once in Honolulu, we had to get our single checked bag from baggage claim, go back to the intra-island ticketing counter to re-check the bag, then back through security. We had about 60 minutes to do this (while we were also hungry, a little dehydrated, and very tired). We made it back to the gate and onto the last flight with about 10 minutes to spare. We made it to Kona airport and they deplaned from the front (very long and windy ramp) and back doors (simple stairs); LouAnna has been suggesting this to Chris for over 10 years and it was awesome to see it actually work. Baggage claim was easy and then we grabbed the shuttle to the rental cars. We got our rental car (white Chevy Equinox) and headed for our condo! We stopped on the way to grab some snacks for tonight and grabbed a couple of sandwiches at Pine Tree Cafe. We finally made it to the condo at about 10:30pm EST. It's a warm one here today, 84 but feels like 90 - the breeze does help immensely. We sat outside and watched the ocean until we finally grabbed showers and fell into bed at 1:30am.
Our condo: 3rd floor walk-up, 1bd/1ba, kitchen, DR, living room faces the ocean, with a cute balcony. There is an AC unit in the bedroom for getting good sleep. Simple, small, and perfect for us.
Biggest thrill: being in Hawaii!!!
Biggest downer: not getting lei'd like it shows in the movies
