The Getting There

On Saturday at noon, our friend, Angi Dobbs, took us to the airport.  After a quick stop at Qdoba, it was onto the gate and head to Toronto, where we'd connect to Dublin!  The flight was easy and short (1 hour and 6 minutes).  We left on time and arrived early - wow we love that!

In Indy
The Toronto airport was very nice.  We were glad because we had a 5 hour layover!  It has comfy chairs, free ipads at tables to use for free, ample plug in to charge and use all manner of electronic devices.  We decided to order a Canadian whiskey and coke, because...when in Rome!  However, in the bar two small glasses of crown and coke cost $23.  So, Chris and I went into the Duty Free shop and found that a liter of his favorite maker of whiskey only cost $22!  So, he bought that, 2-20oz Cokes from the vending machine, and so for $28 bucks, we were drinking Canadian Whiskey in Canada!!  We barely put a dent into that bottle even though we mixed a total of 3 cocktails.  We played on Facebook, we played games on the iPads, we walked around the airport, chatted about the wedding, re-read each others vows, and generally just got excited about Ireland!

Free iPads, our mixed drinks, sister/Nancy's chex mix, and Chris waving hi!
After the 5 hour layover, we boarded the plane right on time, but then sat in it for 30 more minutes before that put that 767 in the air!  Chris and I both tried desperately, but only managed to sleep for about 30 minutes each on that 5 hour flight.  We listened to some music and watched a little TV on the streaming app offered through AirCanada.  Generally, we just tried to rest, since sleep wasn't happening.  That 5 hour flight finally came to an end and we touched down in Dublin to a windy, 40 degree, overcast morning.  It was 7:30am local time, and 3:30am back home in Indiana.  We got our bag from baggage claim, then got the rental car redeemed.

Our ride for the week
After waiting FOREVER for our car, we finally left the airport and deciding we were too tired for anything, headed to our first hotel in Kilkenny.  We took our shot at scaring the locals by driving, sometimes on the correct (left) side of the road.  We grabbed a couple Subway sandwiches on the road and continued heading toward the hotel.  By the time we arrived, we had slept 30 minutes in the last 23 hours and needed a shower and sleep.  We decided to try and check in early.  We arrived at the hotel at 11am local time, and thankfully "the gods were smiling on" us (that's what the hostess said) because there WAS a room available for us, even though check out isn't till noon; thankfully some guests left early!  We took showers and crashed!  Four hours later, we were ready to explore and get a pint!
