August 27, 2023: insulation, neighbors, garage door, walls

This week has been so exciting!  We found out on Tuesday that the house is about 6 weeks ahead of schedule and now we are looking at closing on the house that last week in October!  That's in a coupla months - Wowza!  We knew it was moving along swiftly and we are excited to move sooner than later and start making memories in our new home.

So much has happened!  We got insulation pics on Tuesday evening.

Also, we have neighbors!  They are 4 doors down.  👋 Hi neighbors!

Then, we went to see the house on Friday evening...drywall and joint compound (aka mud)!!  We have walls and rooms, guys!  We have our garage door and are now water tight.  :)  With the new closing date being moved sooner, we are ~9 weeks from getting the keys!  We thought we'd spend Christmas in the new home; we didn't expect to also spend Thanksgiving and maybe Halloween!  Let's go! 

August 20, 2023: Utilities!

 We are cruising right along with this house build.  This week the utilities have gone in.  There is power, natural gas, fiber internet, HVAC ductwork, including the rough-ins for the ceiling fans and a utility tub in the mudroom.  The kitchen island has part of it up, ready for the cabinets to sit up next to the wall.  In the sawdust, we saw little paw prints meaning we'd already had our first visitor. 😁 

We feel like this house is going up quickly so we reached out to the builder to inquire if we are still set for the December 1st target.  She emailed back and said she'd let us know after the meeting on Monday/tomorrow.  Oooooh.  Now, we wait to here how that meeting goes.  Wish us all the good vibes for a swift and effortless build.  Thank you so much for sharing in our excitement.  Please leave a comment and tell us what you're looking forward to seeing get done. August 12, 2023: Roof, windows, showers, and doors - Oh my!

 So much has happened in a week and we may have gone past the house 3x this week; okay, we did.  Not only do they have the trusses up, but the plywood and shingles on top of that.  The water lines are in and the showers have been installed (shower in the master and tub/shower combo in the other bathroom).  The windows are in and taped up, including the sliding patio door - moves like butter!  The front door and door between the garage and house are installed!  It's taking shape and now feels big!  It's going through inspections and Chris has found a few issues that have been corrected.  He's doing a great job babysitting this project.  It's surreal that we're building this house and it's so fun driving out there to see the progress!

What's next?  Not sure.  HVAC, wiring, gas lines, brick exterior accents?  We'll keep you posted each Sunday so stay tuned!

August 5, 2023: Outer walls and framing!

 Another week of driving out to the lot/house.  We assumed that the concrete would still be there, curing, but we also hoped for movement as we are eager to move into our next/new home.  We pulled into the subdivision and house #2 is framed and has the trusses.  And as we continue to drive back to our lot...anticipation builds until we turn onto our street and see the progress!  We have outer walls and some framing and the trusses are sitting in the yard!  It looks like a house!

We got out and walked all through the house - walking into every room.  It still seems small but it feels bigger with the framing so far.  Wild!  We are so excited!  Chris was teary eyed as he walked the rooms - not truly believing that this is actually happening for him/us.
